The villages of Bala and Cynwyd are among the oldest settlements on the Main Line. They actually lie on a branch of the original Main Line Columbia Railroad, which was part of the State System of Public Works that eventually gave birth to the Pennsylvania Railroad. See Bala Cynwyd.
